We took a field-trip day on our way back home from a NY wedding and stopped at Mount Vernon in Virginia. For those who don't know, that is George Washington's original home and plantation. It was beautiful and a great homeschool field-trip for those who live or are traveling in the mid to southeast. It was a beautiful day so we took a bunch of pics. Here are some pictures I thought might inspire us all to farm :o)
They give the kids a children's map to find things on the plantation and there is also a kid friendly audio tour that you can carry around.
Ellie loved the sheep and Christian is convinced he wants to be a shepherd!
Luke preferred the cows.
There were gorgeous 200 year old oaks on the property.
OK, me looking very prego, at almost 5 months, waiting in line to get into the actual home.
George Washington's view of the Potomac River from his back porch.
There were some really cool original barns on the property.
We were all pretty tired by the end of the day, but it was a great educational memory and now we really do want a farm : )
You have such a beautiful family!
ReplyDeleteOoooh, I'm jealous- my husband and I just visited back east in June, and that is the one place we didn't have time for that I wish we had gone. Looks like fun- I agree, I wish we could live there!
ReplyDeleteHave you found out what you're having yet??
Oh wow, what a wonderful field trip!! I so wish we lived near there -- I would love to visit! And yes, I want a house like that! and the property, too! But in southern CA...it's never gonna happen! Unless I win the Lotto :)
ReplyDeleteHow fun. I went there with my girls for their Jr. High Washington DC trip. Loved the trip and did a full album on it. It would definitely be nice to have a place like that..LOL...all that land and animals.
